LA MARIA ​​
Located 140 km northwest of San Julián, Estancia La María is an archaeological site of great importance due to the large amount of rock art found there.
These paintings, dating back more than 12,600 years, offer us a window to the past, allowing us to learn about the life, beliefs, and artistic expressions of the ancient inhabitants of Patagonia.
The cave paintings of Estancia La María are found in more than 80 rocky shelters and depict human figures, animals (guanacos, foxes, birds), geometric and abstract shapes. Mineral pigments such as red, white, black and yellow were used, and different styles and techniques can be identified that correspond to different periods of human occupation in the region.
